SPECIAL PURPOSE CERTIFICATE OF QUALIFICATION
This training program is designed specifically for BC Members of the Canadian Rental Association to inspect, service and requalify portable Gas-Fired Heaters up to 400k btuh. Completing this course enables qualified service technicians to apply for a Special Purpose Certificate of Qualification (SPCQ) from Technical Safety BC to perform regulated work for inspection, service, and requalification of specific makes and models of heaters used within the scope of their operation.
Technical Safety BC Directive D-GA-2018-01 enables an individual with Specialized Gas Equipment Training to apply for a Special Purpose Gas Certificate of Qualification (SPCQ) from Technical Safety BC. The SPCQ certificate is limited in scope allowing the holder to perform regulated work as specified by the certificate and only under the conditions endorsed on the certificate. The SPCQ remains valid for a maximum of 3 years and must be renewed.
Course Outline
This training program is designed specifically for the Canadian Rental Association – BC Region members who wish to qualify service technicians for the Inspection, Service and Requalification of Portable Gas Fired Heaters up to 400k btuh. Successful completion of this course will allow qualified service technicians and CRA-member rental facility locations to apply for a Special Purpose Certificate of Qualification (SPCQ) from Technical Safety BC. This SPCQ will enable the inspection, service and requalification of specific makes and models of heaters used within the scope of the SPCQ within their operation. The course is delivered as two separate modules:
MODULE 1 - Principles for Portable Gas-Fired Heaters
Provides the learner with general knowledge of inspection and maintenance of portable gas-fired heaters, including propane properties and characteristics. This module will cover the broader aspects of technical knowledge and competency required for all portable gas-fired heaters up to 400k btuh.
MODULE 2 - Skills Evaluation for Manufacturer Heater Endorsements
Instruction will include practical, hands-on evaluations of specific heaters. Skills will be assessed on each applicable model of heater, covering both direct and indirect heaters up to 400k btuh.

Please note - This course meets Technical Safety BC: Directive D-GA-2018-01. The Special Purpose Certificate of Qualification issued by Technical Safety BC is intended to cover select makes and models of portable gas fired heaters up to 400k btuh.
Successful completion of this course will allow qualified service technicians at CRA-Member rental facility locations to apply for a Special Purpose Certificate of Qualification (SPCQ) from Technical Safety BC. This SPCQ endorsement entitles the holder to perform regulated work under the conditions specifically stated on the certificate and is valid for 3 years.
