Equipment theft is a big issue for the rental industry. It is estimated that as much as $1 billion worth of equipment is stolen each year, according to the National Equipment Register (NER). Recovery rates have not been high primarily due to lack of accurate information for law enforcement.

To help the recovery effort, the American Rental Association (ARA) has joined forces with NER, the leader in theft prevention and recovery efforts. NER provides an information network that brings together equipment owners, their insurers, law enforcement and the equipment industry to fight equipment theft.

Through this partnership, CRA/ARA members may register up to 1,000 pieces of mobile equipment at no cost. Both the CRA and NER believe the most cost-effective and long-term solution is to make accurate information available to law enforcement when they need it. This partnership will help do that.
